We're moving in!

And loving it.

Lights, countertops, action...

Well, if you count water from the faucet as action. It's certainly a milestone, a long time in coming (four months). We are in absolute awe of how beautiful these mahaghony countertops are--a splurge that just completely warms the room. The cream-colored cabinets also seem to work. Doors arrive next week. Have to get the stove connected, hood vent hooked up, etc., but we're really getting close suddenly. Yahoo!

Like this pendant light?

That's the question of the day! Note that the builders and painters have been busy while we were away--although the island is not the baby blue my flash made it.
Clayton's shirt, on the other hand, really is turquoise.

Making the kitchen

The carpenters work on the island. This is a view from the corner of the kitchen by the garage, looking toward the dining room. To the right of the dining room door is where the fridge will go. You can see the pantry off in the background to the left of the dining room door. The big empty box will hold the dishwasher (in the island). To the right of the closet door, you can see a cupboard above the desk.
Right? Right....

Building blocks to configure

We're moving around the cabinet shells to make sure we'll have sufficient walking space around the island. Crazy. Can you see the trim around the window and the baseboards? Makes a real difference. And then there's that nice oak floor... couldn't have matched the floor in the rest of the house better if it was our top priority (and it actually wasn't!).

Enter the throne room...

As of yesteday we can! ....Use the can!
...And the shower too, although there's no door yet. But running water on the main floor is welcome after nearly three months without it.

Seeing as how getting a downstairs bathroom was the whole impetus for this crazy project, being able to use it seems like a true milestone.

I know it's been a few weeks, Mom...

Sorry I haven't posted for a while. The guys took advantage of nice weather to finish outside. It's looking close to done out there. (Still have to paint the railings white, and we're thinking a color for the door...) The steps are fun to sit on. Clayton and I will put bricks around for a patio when more is done.

Progress has been slower inside, but the floor is ordered. We're hoping for rain so we can get moving again.
